2020-21 School Calendar Adjustment

Information
First published on 19 November 2020 Posted in District News

Good Afternoon Chilton families,
We are in our 12th week of in person instruction for the 2020-2021 School Year.
There is GREAT pride in what we have accomplished as a result of the partnership between school and our families.

As we have continued with our on campus instruction, there have been a number of things that happen behind the scenes to make this a possibility every day.
Most notable, is the dedication of our teachers, para-professionals, administrative assistants and administrators to substitute in the classrooms to provide coverage for those who are unable to be at work. This is no small feat as on average there is a need to cover up to 10 positions on a daily basis.

Our goal is to provide our students a high quality education during a pandemic and we know that the best place for our students is in school with their teacher. Teacher effectiveness is being challenged by COVID-19 and without healthy teachers we will be unable to have students in school. We have realized that in order to continue to provide in person instruction, teachers will need time to engage in activities that allow for best practices in meeting the diverse needs of students.

With this in mind, we will be adjusting the school calendar for the months of December and January. On Wednesdays, during these 2 months, the students will not attend school in person or virtually to provide the opportunity for teachers to engage in collaboration, assessment of academic and mental health of students, participate in professional development, plan for instruction and work with students who are falling behind.

Thank you so much for your continued support as we navigate these uncharted territories with the ultimate goal of providing a high quality in person education to our students.
Attached to this email is the Power Point that was presented to our Board of Education last night please view for additional clarification.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Susan A Kaphingst
Superintendent
